Many people say that that area near Rossio in the neighborhood of Baixa is a great place for accommodation. It is a close, walking distance away from the airport bus station and the railway station, as well as many stations of trams and several metro lines. Another good area to consider is the Saldanha area, a near Campo d’Ourique, the Corte Ingles, Lapa, and some of the neighborhoods near Rato between Marques de Pombal and the Baixa. Avda de Liberdade is another good district with excellent restaurants and cafes, as well as hotels. Wherever the traveler decides to stay, one will definitely have to do some climbing, since the main sites such as the Monastery and the Castle, as well as the Belem Tower are placed in different parts of Lisbon. Of course, one should not worry about that since there are cable cars that offer transport during the day and many taxis that one can use during the night.
